The first book in the Earthship Volume Trilogy written by Michael Reynolds. In Earthship Volume 1: Build Your Own, he describes earthships, the theories behind them, the need for them and why they work. He then dives into the details of how to actually build one.

An Earthship is a structure that is self-sufficient. It is a building that provides it’s own heat, cooling, water, electricity and sewage treatment. In addition it is built with reused or otherwise environmentally sensitive materials, that are relatively cheap, readily available, and easy to use. Used automobile tires meet all of these criteria and make the basic building block for an Earthship.
An easy to understand overview of the construction process. Drawing details add a better understanding of the written explanation. Looking forward to reading the next edition. Having a background in carpentry made the book a breeze to read and fun unfolding the layers of the processes to get to the finished vessel. A great start to understand.
Excellent reference though some techniques are dated. Enjoy the philosophical sidebars. Absolutely necessary for anyone intending a tire bermed Earthship.
I received a metal pipe instead of my books and was told nothing could be done. BUYER BEWARE!!!
I have been interested in earthship design for about 20 years. This book answers most of my questions. I'll buy the 2nd to complete my knowledge.
I'm really enjoying how much I am learning from this book! I can't wait to start building my own self sustaining house!
